tw: domestic abuse
The Daily What can always kiss my ass.
Like I already said on Twitter, instead of condemning Rihanna for forgiving Chris Brown, we need to light a fire under our society that stresses that she does, and don’t give me that “But, Jay Z has never!” because last time I checked, she was getting shit from her fans, probably getting shit from her family, probably various members of her team, because that’s what people do.
And, even if she wasn’t, Rihanna doesn’t owe anyone shit. If she wants to forgive Chris Brown for whatever reason, that’s on her. Just because it happened in the public spotlight doesn’t make her the picture perfect model for domestic abuse survival.
Especially when she never wanted to be.
FYI, anyone who gets on Rihanna for this situation in any way is an automatic defollow.
Never mind the fact that there could be a million reasons for her responding to a tweet that have nothing to do with forgiveness or taking someone back. We simply don’t know about any of it. It’s not like everyone is in a position to understand the exquisite amount of social pressure that she must be under both as someone in the public eye and as someone living at the intersection of racism and misogyny in a patriarchal society that put Chris Brown on stage at the Grammys three fucking times, or to understand what it’s like for abuse victims who have to continue moving in the same circles with their abusers for whatever reason, but we’re all in the position to understand that we don’t get to judge how someone else deals with THEIR trauma.
